About the Event
Join Kiko Villamizar for a relaxed evening during which he pays homage to the memory of his mother and the Latin American folk music that she loved and often sang when he was growing up. She took on the roles of both mother and father to Kiko, and this concert fits perfectly in between Mother’s Day and Father’s Day.
"Full-bodied and powerful, Kiko Villamizar’s golden voice aches, even as it soars" - Austin American Statesman
Born in Miami to Colombian parents, he was taken to Colombia as a child and raised on a coffee farm where he learned Colombian folk music through oral tradition with his family. He studied jazz in Miami, then began traveling, collecting melodies and rhythms that make for a genuine world class fusion of Colombian rhythms.
